Netgear Internet not working in the countryside?

Hello everyone, I have been living in the countryside almost my entire life now. And I have seen the evolution of the Internet over the years. Now, I know many others like me have also faced Netgear Internet issues in rural areas.

Most recently, I opted for Netgear Internet, and it was working fine, but recently, its speed also slowed down. So, in this article, I will tell you a few steps that you can follow to boost your WiFi signals in rural areas.

First and foremost, we recommend that you plug the router into the center of your house. This will ensure that you receive adequate signals in all directions. If you still have WiFi dead zones, then we recommend you install a WiFi range extender. A WiFi extender will extend the range of your WiFi to more than 20–50 feet.

Since you are using a Netgear router, you can install the Netgear extender. Let me guide you on how you can do that.

Netgear Extender Setup

  • Plug the extender into the same room as the router. Make sure not to plug the extender near bigger appliances which might interfere with its signals, like microwave, a/c, etc.
  • Then wait for at least two minutes until you see a solid, stable power LED on the extender.
  • Next, use a phone, computer, tablet, etc. And go to its settings, and then to the WiFi.
  • There you will find the Netgear extender’s default network name showing up. It will come up as “Netgear_Ext”.
  • Tap on this network to connect to it. Once it shows connected, no internet. Then the setup window will come up automatically on your screen.
  • If it doesn’t, then open any browser on the same device. You can use chrome, safari, edge, etc.
  • Now, into the URL at the very top of your browser, type mywifiexte.net and hit enter. This will take you to the login page of your extender.
  • In case it doesn’t, then type 192.168.0.250 and hit enter. This will also take you to the login page.
  • If none of this works, then we recommend you first reset the extender. You can do that by putting a paper clip inside the reset hole of the extender for around 10 seconds while the extender is still plugged into the wall. After 10 seconds, release the pin and let the extender reboot. Then start the setup steps again from step one.
  • Nevertheless, on the login page, type your username and password as “admin”.
  • Next, select the network name that you want to extend. So here, you will simply need to select your netgear router’s SSID. Moreover, you will need to type its password for verification.
  • Once you hit save settings, you will be able to see the new extender’s WiFi network on your device’s WiFi list. It will come up as (_EXT) in your WiFi list.

Now, plug the extender halfway between your router and the location where you need WiFi. Suppose you want WiFi in your bedroom, then plug this netgear extender between your bedroom and your router.

Netgear Router Firmware Update

We also recommend that you update the firmware of your router to the latest version. This will ensure that your device is bug free and has the highest security standards provided by the company. Moreover, the latest firmware will ensure the highest speed and bandwidth too.

You can update the firmware by going to routerlogin.net and trying 192.168.1.1 to login to your Netgear router. Then go to administration>update>firmware update.

You can also manually update to the latest version of your router, just in case you don’t see a new one available on the web management page. You can check for the latest firmware for your router on Netgear’s official website.

Other Options

If Netgear Internet is also not working for you and you are still not getting good signals, then we recommend you try other WiFi systems. You can go for a mesh WiFi system, Powerline, or even Starlink. The setup and installation of all of these are very simple and easy.

You can check out here how to setup starlink router in just 5 minutes. Starlink can be the best option for you as it is satellite internet and they can provide speeds up to 200 mbps. So, even if you have more than 10 devices at home, it can easily handle your WiFi needs.

Moreover, you can go to their official website and use your pincode to check if their service is available in your area or not. Just in case they don’t, then the second-best option can be Hughesnet.

They also provide good internet speed at the best price.

Conclusion

So, this is how you have better WiFi connectivity in the countryside. Either you can use the diagnostic steps mentioned above or switch to a better company.
